1. Basic Idea
The GMA Triathlon is an international activity program for radio amateurs. Its purpose is to make radio contacts in several outdoor disciplines and to collect points.
The term “triathlon” is historical. In practice, the program now includes more than three disciplines.
2. Disciplines
- Summits (GMA / SOTA)
- WWFF
- COTA
- IOTA / GMA Islands
- Lighthouses
- Mills
- POTA
Note on IOTA / GMA Islands: The discipline IOTA / GMA Islands includes both classic IOTA references and GMA Islands.
3. Participant Groups
Activator
Activators are radio amateurs operating from a valid reference.
Chaser
Chasers are radio amateurs who work valid activities.
A chaser QSO is not limited to operation from home or from a fixed station. Even someone operating portable may also be counted as a chaser when working another valid reference.
Example: If someone is sitting on a summit and works an island, this QSO may count as a chaser QSO for the relevant discipline.
4. Scoring
4.1 Summits
For Summits (GMA / SOTA), scoring follows the GMA rules.
1 point per 100 m elevation
4.2 All Other Disciplines
For WWFF, COTA, IOTA / GMA Islands, Lighthouses, Mills, and POTA, each valid activation or reference is worth 10 points.
5. Multiple Scoring
Multiple scoring is allowed. One activity may therefore count for several disciplines if the relevant conditions are met.
6. General Scoring Rules
- Each discipline is counted separately.
- Summits are scored according to the GMA rules.
- For non-summit disciplines, 10 points per valid reference / activation apply.
- The total score is the sum of all disciplines.
- In addition to the total score, a minimum number of qualifying groups must be fulfilled.
7. Annual Scoring
The annual scoring applies to one calendar year.
Period: 01 January, 00:00 UTC to 31 December, 23:59 UTC

9. Automatic Evaluation
The evaluation is carried out automatically via the GMA web interface.
For each award level, the following conditions are checked:
- whether the required total score has been achieved,
- whether the required number of award groups has been fulfilled,
- whether the required minimum points have been reached in each discipline.
The online table shows the current status for each award level.
- The first points column in each row always shows the current score of the respective discipline or category.
- A green dot in a discipline column indicates that the minimum requirement for that discipline and level has been achieved.
- A check mark in the award groups row indicates that the required number of award groups has been fulfilled.
- A check mark in the total row indicates that the required total score has been achieved.
- A negative value indicates how many points or groups are still missing to meet the requirement.
A certificate is only issued for an award level when both the total and the award groups requirements are fulfilled.
10. Logging and Proof
All relevant activities must be recorded in the GMA system. The rules of the respective program apply for each discipline.
If required, proof may be requested, for example:
- logbook extract
- photos
- GPS track / APRS
- other suitable evidence
11. Operation and Validity
- The licensing rules of the relevant country apply.
- All frequencies and modes for which the operator is licensed are permitted.
- Contacts via terrestrial repeaters do not count.
- For Summits, the GMA rules apply.
- For the other disciplines, the rules of the underlying programs apply.
12. Summary of the Scoring Logic
Annual Scoring
- Period: current calendar year
- Classes: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum

Endless Scoring

13. New Title: Legend Chaser
With Legend Chaser, a new highest endless-scoring class is introduced.

This makes Legend Chaser the new top class above Crazy Chaser.
